Xiaomi Launches Fully Automated Smart Home Appliance Factory in Wuhan

Xiaomi has quietly revealed its latest manufacturing venture: a highly automated smart home appliance factory built to operate with minimal human involvement.

The facility was unveiled at the Xiaomi 17 Ultra launch event on December 25, 2025. Xiaomi stated that the factory, located in Wuhan’s East Lake High-tech Development Zone, started operations earlier this year and is now producing large home appliances on a mass scale.

Named the Xiaomi Smart Home Appliance Factory, this facility is the company’s third major manufacturing hub, joining its smartphone and automotive plants. Xiaomi says it integrates product design, development, and mass production in a single location, with a strong emphasis on automation.

Much of the production follows what Xiaomi calls “lights-out” manufacturing. The injection molding and sheet metal workshops are fully automated and operate without lighting, achieving tolerances as precise as ±0.05mm. Materials are transported across the site via a 4.2-kilometer aerial conveyor system that links six separate workshops.

Inside the factory, logistics are primarily managed by 161 autonomous mobile robots that transport components between stations while navigating obstacles in real time. Xiaomi says this system handles over 90% of internal logistics, reducing material losses and boosting throughput. At full capacity, an air conditioner reportedly rolls off the production line every 6.5 seconds.

Quality control at the factory is fully automated. AI-powered visual inspections are used for critical components—such as circuit boards and mechanical parts—leveraging high-resolution cameras and edge AI models instead of conventional sampling methods.

Construction of the facility progressed rapidly. Approved in August 2024, the project broke ground in November and reached structural completion by January 2025, setting a new local record for construction speed.

As Xiaomi continues to expand its home appliance business, the new factory highlights the company’s growing push toward advanced, self-managed manufacturing.
