The rumors turned out to be true. The Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold—arguably the most hyped smartphone in recent memory, aside from Apple’s rumored iFold—is real, and it’s shipping this month. As always, though, the details matter.
Samsung confirmed on Monday evening (December 1, 2025) that its first tri-folding Galaxy phone will launch in South Korea on December 12, followed by a U.S. release in the first quarter of 2026. There’s still no word on availability in the UK or Australia.
Judging by the full specifications Samsung revealed, this is a genuinely cutting-edge device. When fully unfolded, it features an ultra-thin 3.9mm, 10-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 1,600 nits. Impressively, it’s even thinner when opened than the 4.2mm Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the 5.8mm Galaxy S25 Edge.

Folded, Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold is a slightly chunky (12.9mm) smartphone with a 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display.
The phone introduces a wide range of new technologies.

Overall, the device sounds like an engineering marvel, featuring two distinct hinge designs—one of which must be wider to allow the third panel to fold over the other two. Samsung says its dual-rail, titanium hinge system is engineered to work in unison. That raises the question of whether one hinge can operate independently of the other, or if unfolding one automatically triggers the other—suggesting the phone may only support two states: the 6.5-inch cover display or the full 10-inch tablet mode.
The Armor Aluminum frame is designed to prevent sections of the 10-inch display from coming into contact with each other, helping reduce wear and potential damage over time. Samsung has also applied a reinforced protective overcoat to improve durability of the flexible screen.
